Frequently asked questions

What's with the paper?

Paper
Paper is a reflective media so to see a print at it’s best it will need good light.

Contrast
The other thing to consider is the reduced contrast ratio of print media. Your typical monitor these days will have a contrast ratio of 1000:1 or better. This ration between the darkest black and the brightest white is reduced to 200:1 with a good gloss paper and 100:1 with a matt paper. Under good light you will notice the difference.

Should I calibrate my monitor?

I think this is the most important factor in getting consistent prints. My workflow is calibrated to provide consistent, colour accurate results. However if you are editing your images on an un-calibrated display there is no guarantee that the image I see on my monitor when preparing the print is consistent with what you would be seeing on your display.

We spend time making sure that we prepare our work to look just the way we want it to be. The right amount of detail in the shadows, colour or tone just right. By using a calibrated monitor you can be confident that your printed output will match your edits.
